Student Organizations

Graduate Student Organization (GSO)

The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences supports a campus-wide Graduate Student Organization (GSO). Clinical Psychology students have two elected representatives in that body and are encouraged to participate in its activities. GSO participation offers many benefits, one of which is annual travel scholarships. Students interested in participating in the GSO should contact the Psychology Chief Resident for more information.

Faculty-Student Organization of Clinical Psychology (Focus)

The Faculty-Student Organization of Clinical Psychology at UT Southwestern (FOCUS) is a student-led organization that facilitates camaraderie and collaboration between students and faculty in the Division of Psychology. FOCUS aims to foster relationships among students and provide additional opportunities for student-faculty interaction. Student leaders organize social and community service events and coordinate annual awards for teaching, student clinical work and student research.

Recent service projects include:

  • Crossroads Community Services
  • The Resource Center
  • North Texas Food Bank

Leaders of this organization are nominated by students. FOCUS is supported by faculty sponsor Kim Roaten, Ph.D., ABPP.

Diversity Club

The Diversity Club is a student-run organization and believes that diversity encompasses all of the features that make individual clients unique, which include, but are not limited to: race, gender, ethnicity, disability, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, gender identity, and country of origin/regional location. We meet monthly to discuss diversity as it relates to the practice of clinical psychology.

Discussions are based on relevant literature, clinical experience, and guest speakers from various organizations in the community. In addition, the Diversity Club aims to provide volunteer opportunities for under-served and under-represented populations in the community and to compile resources for client referrals.

Student Research Committee (SRC)

The Student Research Committee (SRC) is a student-led organization dedicated to enhancing students' research experiences. It provides valuable resources to support and foster student research by offering educational opportunities and expanding collaborative efforts through a multidisciplinary, team-based scientific approach. Additionally, the SRC offers leadership opportunities for those interested in taking a more active role in planning and coordinating events.

The SRC is open to all individuals, from those new to research to those hoping to pursue a full-time research career. SRC members actively participate in research across a variety of departments at UT Southwestern Medical Center, including Psychiatry, Neurology and Neurotherapeutics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as at Children’s Medical Center.

Association of Neuropsychology Students in Training (ANST)

The Association of Neuropsychology Students in Training (ANST) is a trainee organization that is part of the Society for Clinical Neuropsychology, Division 40 American Psychological Association, for students interested in the field of neuropsychology.

This organization promotes three values:

  • Community
  • Leadership

The ANST chapter at UT Southwestern focuses on knowledge through regularly scheduled neuropsychology-related lectures and fact-finding seminars, community through outreach opportunities and social events, and leadership through opportunities to serve as ANST officers. We emphasize both adult and pediatric neuropsychology and welcome all students and faculty to our events.

BIPOC Collective

The BIPOC Collective is a community supporting women and gender-diverse people of color that is committed to creating a safe and nurturing space that celebrates our diverse identities within the academic experiences in psychology. We also aim to foster meaningful connections and networking opportunities for our members. Furthermore, we strive to advocate for equity, inclusion, and social justice for marginalized communities. With these values in mind, we empower one another, amplify our voices, and work toward a more equitable future for all. Events are organized on a semester basis and include activities such as social/networking events, themed self-care events, and service events. All are welcome to join.
